Life on the road can be a great time, but there is also definitely an element of “the grind.” In order to lighten things up, we do our fair share of pranks in Blue Water Highway.
One infamous—and continuous—prank tradition is the discreet placing of an ancient box of smoked mussels in somebody’s luggage or backpack. Once you discover it, you have to pay it forward to the next unlucky band member. Kind of gross:/ Maybe someday they will get eaten and the vicious cycle will be broken.
Another classic prank includes constructing very elaborate barriers in front of the hotel room door. Many a night, some poor band member stumbling back from a good post-show time at a bar has had to brave the obstacle course of chairs, tables, sheets, and booby traps of falling luggage and pillows to reach the safety of their bed.
Finally—although I don’t know if this counts as a prank—our lead guitar player, Greg, has been known to wake the sleeping band with his rendition of the national anthem played with his amp turned all the way up. I guess that’s his version of reveille. Either way, it does the trick. ;)

Keep up with the band on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter!
